Season of Twinning

The Season of Twinning is an annual event spearheaded by the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding where thousands of Muslims and Jews link up in scores of cities in more than 30 countries. The event is usually held in November or December. Mosques and synagogues, Muslim and Jewish student groups, young leadership bodies and women’s organizations ‘twin’ with each other in cities around the world and hold events focused on celebrating commonalities in our two faith traditions. Together, they show their support in combatting Islamophobia and anti-Semitism by performing acts of social service together in recognition of the common moral imperative in both Islam and Judaism to help those in need.

The Foundation helps to coordinate and facilitate many of these events. Participation in the Season of Twinning allows grassroots Jewish and Muslim organizations around the world to meet, learn from each other and to form personal friendships. : Quebec City, Canada | Center for Research-Action on Race Relations and Concordia Student Union hosted the Third Annual Interfaith Commemoration of the mass shooting at Quebec City Mosque.

: Barcelona, Spain| Salam Shalom Barcelona and Mozaika organized a special conversation between two immigrants from Morocco – one Muslim and one Jewish.

: Tunis, Tunisia | The Tunisian Association for the Support of Minorities organized a seminar in collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, about the establishment of a culture of peace and coexistence from a theological perspective.

: Abidjan, Ivory Coast | ONG Afrique-Israel, led by Marc Aba Bechou and Kone Aboubacar Siriki, hosted the first-ever Twinning event on the Ivory Coast, with Imam Issouf Doumbia of the Mosquee Salam du Plateau in Abidjan meeting Rabbi Yerah Bensaid, Director of Chabad Ivory Coast.

: Tbilisi, Georgia |LEA and the Council of Jewish Women in Georgia organized a series of interfaith events, including a discussion about restitution of religious property from the Soviet era and an exhibition showcasing religious traditions of Jews, Muslims and Christians in the region.

: Mexico City, Mexico| Sheikh Said Louahabi, President of the Muslim Community Educational Center of Mexico joined Hazan Ari Litvak of Communidad Betel synagogue and other faith leaders to speak at a summit about Muslim-Jewish friendship and the importance of inclusiveness in society.
