Remembering Dr. Hazel Dukes

Saddened to note the passing of Dr. Hazel Dukes, cherished friend, tireless civil rights advocate and venerated leader of New York State NAACP, who for close to four decades worked in collaboration with FFEU in building and strengthening black Jewish relations in our city.

Hazel understood that a people who fight for their own rights are only as honorable as when they fight for the rights of all people.

In this spirit, her passionate message reverberates to this day when she joined Reverend Al Sharpton and myself with Black and civil rights leaders in denouncing antisemitic attacks in New York at a citywide press conference in December 2019. (Credit: Lev Radin / Alamy Stock Photo).
