FFEU partner, MACFEST, held a spectacular opening ceremony at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester UK to launch its Muslim Arts Network and Women’s Arts Festival. It was a beautiful celebration of cultural heritage with art hubs from Syria, Morocco, Sudan, Bangladesh, and the Uyghur community. Lord Mayor of Manchester Cllr, Paul Andrews and the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Suzanne Wyatt were in attendance.
Visitors enjoyed creative drop-in activities, including painting and calligraphy, as they celebrated diversity, creativity, and the spirit of MACFEST, which aims to showcase and honor the diverse cultural heritage of the Muslim diaspora.
FFEU Executive Director, Mr. Chris Sacarabany, sent a video message to MACFEST, highlighting its partnership with FFEU, congratulating MACFEST Founder Qaisra Shahraz, and expressing appreciation for the development of MACFEST and the launching of its Muslim Arts’ Network, only a few months after the 1st Muslim Arts Awards held in 2024.
MACFEST will host more than 80 events until mid-July. The Whitworth Gallery hosted MACFEST’s International Women’s Day panel discussion on how heritage, arts & culture can drive women’s equality and social justice by reflecting on the UN’s SDG5 report on gender equality.
