Billionaire Ron Burkle was a big spender the first time he visited a Baptist church with Sean Combs.
The Yucaipa Cos. chief was honored at the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding’s (FFEU) 25th anniversary party Tuesday night at Russell Simmons’ Hollywood home, where Combs presented Burkle with the International Humanitarian Award.
The music mogul revealed during his introduction that one of his first meetings with Burkle was bringing him to a Baptist church service.
Combs suggested they donate when the collection plate went around, and then was astonished as Burkle wrote a check for $100,000.
Burkle confirmed Combs’ story and admitted it was his first time in a Baptist church, though he was born Baptist.
FFEU President Rabbi Marc Schneier later joked that his synagogue would now be instituting a collection plate.
Guests at the event included the Prince of Bahrain H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, FFEU board secretary Ken Sunshine, Avril Lavigne, Anthony Kiedis and Flea.
