The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding Celebrates 20 Years of Success
Honors LL Cool J, Others for Work Promoting Diversity and Ethnic Tolerance

On Monday, April 6, 2009, music mogul Russell Simmons, chairman of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, hosted in his New York home the Foundation's 2009 Spring Benefit Reception and Joseph Papp Racial Harmony Award Ceremony honoring entertainer LL Cool J and executives Mona Sterling and David Sterling.

The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding was founded in 1989 by Rabbi Marc Schneier and the late Joseph Papp to initiate direct, face-to-face dialogue between ethnic communities to reduce bigotry and promote reconciliation and understanding.

"I am overwhelmed that we are now celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding and all the work that has been accomplished since we began," said Rabbi Marc Schneier, president of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding. "As we begin our next twenty years, we must reaffirm our efforts to maintain the relationships we have helped strengthen over the years, as well as our commitment to increasing dialogue between Muslims, Jews and other ethnic communities."

Since The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding was founded 20 years ago, the organization has made significant strides in reinvigorating the Black/Jewish Alliance that helped lead to the success of the Civil Rights Movement. Today, it continues its efforts within the Black and Jewish communities while continuing to also focus on strengthening dialogue between Muslims and Jews.

The Joseph Papp Racial Harmony Award is named in memory of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding's cofounder, Joseph Papp. It honors individuals for their efforts in promoting diversity and ethnic tolerance through their businesses and personal endeavors.
