Black History Month at Bloomingdale's

On Thursday, February 26, 2009, Bloomingdale's 59th Street and Central Diversity Council presented "A Celebration of Black History Month." Rabbi Marc Schneier joined Michael Gould, Chairman and CEO, Laurie N. Robinson, Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of CBS and CEO of Corporate Counsel Women of Color and Bloomingdale's employees on the famed 59th Street b'way to honor Black History Month, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and these historic times we are all living in with the election of President Barack Obama. Rabbi Schneier discussed the unprecedented relationship between the African American and Jewish communities noting "that no segment of American society provided as much and as consistent support to Dr. King and to the African American community as did the Jewish community." Rabbi Schneier noted that today we emulate the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who understood that a people who fight for their own rights are only as honorable as when they fight for the rights of all people.
