The Foundation Premieres New PSA Campaign to
His Royal Highness King Abdullah
Our president, Rabbi Marc Schneier,
traveled to Madrid as a guest of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia to participate
in the World Conference on Dialogue on July 16-18, 2008, a conclave of
200 top clerics and scholars representing the world's great religions.
Soon after King Abdullah kicked off the conference at the ornate El Pardo
Palace with a call for increased dialogue and understanding among followers
of all religions, Rabbi Schneier and Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, one of the
leading experts on Islamic jurisprudence in North America, had a private
conversation with the Saudi monarch.
Rabbi Schneier and Dr. Siddiqi showed the King excerpts of a national
and international advertising campaign on which they are collaborating
designed to combat anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. This is the first time
that Jewish and Muslim leaders have joined forces on such a campaign.
Dr. Siddiqi is Chairman of the Fiqh Council of North America and religious
director of the Islamic Society of Orange County, California.
The advertising blitz will include a print ad campaign to appear in newspapers
across the U.S. and Canada, and a public service announcement that will
run on national and international networks. Both the print ad and the
public service announcement feature six imams and six rabbis, including
Rabbi Schneier and Dr. Siddiqi, standing together and denouncing Islamophobia
and anti-Semitism.
